season of cozy

The autumn season of cozy has officially arrived which means for so many of us we now turn inward to our homes.   Flickering candles, warm blankets, steamy cups of tea and even a glass of red wine may now grace the daily routine.  Our retreat indoors has us seeing our homes with fresh eyes after a warm summer spent in the outdoor air closer to nature and our gardens.  Mentally we begin a to-do list is growing quickly as the holidays approach.  Yet we must remember to embrace the season, let home be a reflection of ourselves, let home empower us, let home be an inspiration.

I’m not saying that we need to commit the most minute details of hygge to our core or even emulate the nuances of our favorite interiors.  It is more about taking the small notes and creating the vignettes that become our inspiration, our energy, our guide.

Last winter, I dove headfirst into learning about hygge.  It changed my perspective of how to weather the seasons, especially in upstate New York where some seem to pass in moment and others hang on much to long.  Now this year, as the autumn settles in, the number of candles scattered throughout my home has multiplied and continues to do so.  I no longer look longingly at woolen blankets that bring back memories of holidays spent abroad with family rather I strategically plot how many and where they can be showcased.

Our homes and our lives are more complex than the latest hot topic or interior buzz word.  While I have always felt this way, I began to realize it on a deeper level when I stumbled upon Feng Shui a few months ago.  Yes, I have known some very high-level facts that may be rather cliche, but I was amazed by just how various elements and small details could impact your space and the overall energy in your life.

So after these two learnings, I decided it was finally time to roll up my sleeves and expend a little more energy analyzing interior spaces, talking about home, design, style and how the elements we choose to live with impact our lives and how they contribute to our daily life and our overall lifestyle.

Please join me as I journey through interior spaces with our homes at the center and how interior design can not only contribute to beautiful spaces but how it can positively impact everyday living.
